Benton County Health Department – H1N1 (swine flu)

H1N1 (SWINE) Flu Situational Update

See http://www.flu.oregon.gov/Pages/VaccineLocations.aspx for state site listing vaccine availability in all Oregon counties.

The H1N1 Vaccine is available at the Benton County Health Department by appointment at 541-766-6835.

  • Children under the age of ten who got their first H1N1 vaccine should receive a second dose.
  • The second dose should be given 28 days or later after the first dose.
  • The second dose is needed to better protect your child from the H1N1 flu.

Sporadic cases of H1N1 influenza (flu) continue to occur in the United States and around the world.  A small number of flu cases are expected to continue through the summer. So far, most of these have been H1N1.

Benton County has a good supply of H1N1 vaccine.  Anyone who wants the H1N1 vaccine should be able to get this at their doctor’s office, a local pharmacy or their local health department.  You should call before hand to make an appointment.

Individuals who have not had the H1N1 vaccine yet should consider getting it now.  This is most important for people who:

  • Have health conditions like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, heart or neurologic disease, and pregnancy.
  • Will be traveling.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have more information on their website at:  http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/travel_h1n1_vaccine.htm

Anyone who has had the H1N1 vaccine should still get the seasonal flu vaccine this fall.

The seasonal flu vaccine for the winter of 2010-2011 will include protection from H1N1 and two other flu viruses.
