Technical Advisory Committee

Benton County Prairie Species Habitat Conservation Plan

Upcoming Meetings

The entire Technical Advisory Committee met on Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. in the Benton Plaza, Plaza (Lower) Meeting Room at 408 SW Monroe Avenue in Corvallis.

The meeting focused on the development of the Prairie Conservation Strategy of the HCP.

The Prairie Conservation Strategy will be an appendix to the HCP- as the Strategy is still under development, the current draft HCP includes only a preliminary outline. While the draft HCP primarily addresses impacts and mitigation, the Prairie Conservation Strategy will be a guide to the local (Benton County) implementation of the draft USFWS Recovery Plan and the ODFW Oregon Conservation Strategy, in addition to other conservation goals. The scope of the Prairie Conservation Strategy will extend beyond the plants and butterflies currently covered in the HCP, to include multiple at-risk birds, insects, reptiles, and other organisms. While the Prairie Conservation Strategy will be an appendix to the HCP, the County plans for it to also be a stand-alone document that will be user-friendly for both public and private land managers.

Purpose

The technical advisory committee will serve as an advisory group to the HCP planning team on such issues as species biology, species habitat requirements, and habitat restoration.  Specifically, the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) will:

  • Help define and refine biological goals and objectives
  • Help define monitoring and management needs
  • Review field assessment methods and field inventory analysis
  • Review take analysis
  • Conduct formal and informal review of the habitat conservation plan and NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) documents
  • Identify conservation measures and potential reserve areas

Committee Members

This committee is composed of scientists with expertise in the biology and ecology of the species and habitat types covered by the Benton County Prairie Species Habitat Conservation plan. See list of current Technical Advisory Committee members.
