Benton County Announces Water Community Forum

The Benton County Board of Commissioners will host a community forum to discuss the possibility of developing a countywide water policy and water plan.

The community forum will feature water experts including Dr. Michael Campana, Director of Oregon State University’s Institute for Water and Watersheds and Director Phil Ward of the Oregon Water Resources Department. Representatives from the City of Corvallis, Benton County, Greenberry Irrigation District and Marys River Watershed Council will share local perspectives of future water challenges.

“Even though Benton County averages 40 inches of annual rainfall, many of our residents are experiencing water related problems, such as their wells going dry. As the population grows in the cities and development likely in rural areas of the county where development was not planned, it makes sense to plan for how we manage this limited resource,” said Vice-Chair Linda Modrell of the Benton County Board of Commissioners and member of the Association of Oregon Counties Water Policy Council.

The meeting is open to the public.
