The focus of the Marine Patrol is to promote boating safety. This is accomplished through boating examinations, citations or warnings when needed, and classroom instruction.
The Benton County Marine Patrol has venue in five counties (Benton, Lane, Linn, Marion and Polk), upon the Willamette, Santiam, Long Tom, and Alsea Rivers. Regular patrol is conducted on the Willamette River from Harrisburg down stream to Buena Vista. As navigability permits, patrols periodically travel the Santiam, Long Tom and Alsea Rivers.
