Grant Review Committee Application

Benton County Agriculture and Wildlife Protection Program (AWPP)

Grant Review Committee

Background

The Benton County Agriculture and Wildlife Protection Program (AWPP) funds a merit-based, cost share, reimbursement grant program.  Agricultural operations in Benton County that wish to prevent conflicts with wildlife may qualify for up to $5,000 in reimbursement grant funds for the purchase of proactive non-lethal wildlife deterrents to protect livestock and crops. Individuals experiencing conflicts with beavers may also qualify for grant funds for the purchase of deterrents to protect trees or prevent flooding. Additional information on the program can be found at: https://www.co.benton.or.us/awpp

The AWPP grant program requires an application for non-lethal wildlife deterrent reimbursement funds.  Grant applications will be reviewed by the AWPP Grant Review Committee - a five-member committee consisting of representatives from Benton County Department of Natural Areas and Parks, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Chintimini Wildlife Center, as well as two at-large members.  The committee will be advised by OSU Extension and the Benton County Natural Areas and Parks Director.  Benton County is seeking applicants to serve as at-large members on the AWPP Grant Review Committee.

Who is eligible to serve?

Applicants must reside in Benton County and must have experience, training, or involvement in agriculture and/or with wildlife.

What are the responsibilities of the AWPP Grant Review Committee?

AWPP Grant Review Committee members will attend a 1 ½ hour orientation meeting prior to receiving the grant applications.  Once grant applications are received, committee members will read, review and score each application.  At a second meeting, the committee will discuss the grant applications, tally the scores given by each reviewer and decide on the awarding of the grants.  A third meeting may be necessary to finalize grant awards.  It is anticipated that the total grant review process will involve a time commitment of 35-40 hours by each committee member.
