Benton Health Center remodel wraps first phase, begins phase two

The first phase of construction of the Benton Health Center remodel, located on 530 NW 27th Street, was completed earlier this month and the second phase began on November 19, 2018.

Beginning November 19, the main entrance on the south side of the building will be permanently relocated to the new entrance on 27th Street. The current patient parking lot and bike rack will remain.

The focal point of the renovation is the new main entrance and centralized reception area where patients can access all services. The centralized reception area and pharmacy features new lighting, fixtures, carpeting and furniture. Additionally, the building is outfitted with a new HVAC system, and new plumbing and piping.

The Benton Health Center will be closed on November 16 to accommodate the relocation of divisions located on the south and west side of the building. Women, Infants and Children (WIC), labs, billing, outpatient mental health, and immunizations will relocate to the remodeled section on the east side of the building.

Beginning November 19, the interior space on the southern and western sides of the facility will be demolished. During the second phase, the building’s elevator will be closed periodically. The elevator provides access to the new conference room on the lower level.

The second phase of construction on the south and west side will be completed by the end of 2018. When that phase is completed, a second public entrance will become available on the west side of the building.  In addition, a separate waiting room for mental health services and space for dental services will be allocated on the second floor.

The final phase of construction on the north side of the building will begin in 2019, with a scheduled completion date of February 28, 2019.

The dental services and selected mental health services currently provided at the 53rd ST Health Services Center will remain there through the final phase of construction. The selected mental health services include the Assertive Community Treatment Team, Wraparound Care Coordinators, Housing Team, and psychiatry providers and nurses.

The 53rd ST Health Services Center shuttle service provided by the County that began in March continues to be available to patients and staff. The first shuttle pick-up starts at 8:15am at the Benton Health Center and following pickups are a quarter past the hour (:15) and a quarter to the hour (:45). Pick up at the 53rd ST Health Services Center occurs on the hour (:00) and half hour (:30). The last pick-up at the 53rd ST Health Services Center is at 5:30pm.

The Benton Health Center remodel project is currently under budget and on schedule, and is projected to be completed on time and under budget.
