Pollution Prevention (Control Measure 6)
Stormwater – Pollution Prevention
Pollution prevention can be any activity that avoids, eliminates or reduces the creation of pollutants or other negative environmental impacts (see DEQ informational webpage).
"Pollution prevention" can include:
- Protection of natural resources
- Increased efficiency in the use of raw materials, energy, water, or other resources
- Source reduction and other practices that reduce or eliminate the creation or use of hazardous substances, pollutants
- Contaminants prior to any recycling, treatment, or disposal
Benton County has been meeting several pollution prevention strategy goals through the Benton County Stormwater Management Program:
- Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
- Construction Site Runoff Control
- Post-Construction Site Runoff Control
- Good Housekeeping Practices
