Schedules and Calendars

Elections are scheduled in March, May, August, and November of each year. May and November elections include the election of public officials and measures. Other election dates are used for filling vacancies in office or submitting measures to the voters.

Primary Election

Held on the third Tuesday in May of even numbered years:

  • National Offices:
    President, Vice President (4-year term), US Senator (6-year term), US Representative in Congress (2-year term)
  • Oregon State Offices:
    Governor (4-year term), Secretary of State (4-year term), State Treasurer (4-year term), Attorney General (4-year term), State Senator (4-year term), State Representative (2-year term), Commissioner of Bureau of Labor and Industries (4-year term), Judges (6-year term)
  • Benton County:
    Commissioners (4-year term), Sheriff (4-year term), District Attorney (4-year term), Judges (6-year term)
  • Democratic and Republican Parties:
    Elect Central Committee persons (2-year term)
  • And any qualifying measures
Special District Election

Held on the third Tuesday in May of odd numbered years:

  • Benton County:
    Education service districts, community colleges, schools, fire, park and recreation, water, and cemetery district board members elections.
  • And any qualifying measures
General Election

Held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even numbered years.

  • National Offices:
    President, Vice President (4-year term), US Senator (6-year term), US Representative in Congress (2-year term)
  • Oregon State Offices:
    Governor (4-year term), Secretary of State (4-year term), State Treasurer (4-year term), Attorney General (4-year term), State Senator (4-year term), State Representative (2-year term), Commissioner of Bureau of Labor and Industries (4-year term), Judges (6-year term)
  • Benton County:
    Commissioners (4-year term), Sheriff (4-year term), District Attorney (4-year term), Judges (6-year term)
  • Cities:
    Mayor and Councilors (term lengths vary)
  • Districts:
    Benton Soil and Water Commissioners (4-year term)
