Peer Specialists function within a care team providing:

  • Outreach
  • Recovery Support
  • Groups
    • Hearing Voices
    • Living with Chronic Conditions
    • Mindfullness
    • LOTUS

Peer Specialists are individuals who are consumers themselves and are, not only managing their mental illness effectively, but are also working with other individuals who are also mentally ill. Peer Specialists provide experiences and a perspective to mental health services that only they have. They provide the link between treatment and recovery as a model, a coach, a liaison and a supporter.

Peer Specialists work in both Public Health and within Mental Health. Within Public Health they function as navigators to a greater system. Their services are designed to invite and encourage community members to engage in an active pursuit of a positive, healthy lifestyle. As part of their role in Public Health Peer Specialists provide a number of services for the community at large that are available for individuals not enrolled in mental health service.
