Socioeconomic Health: Introduction

Socioeconomic status impacts all aspects of health. Education and income are inversely associated with morbidity and mortality. For example, low education is associated with higher health risk behaviors and income level is a strong predictor of mortality. These factors can influence health choices, access to health information and services, and health status.

Notable Statistics

  • Exceeds Target: Nearly 50% of Benton County's population have a bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Meets Target: Unemployment rates in Benton County have declined by 24.4% since it peaked in 2009.

  • Needs Improvement: Benton County has a greater percentage of individuals living below the poverty level compared to Oregon and the U.S. Over 20% of individuals in Benton County are living below the poverty level.
