2019 Dust Control

The Benton County Public Works Department has contracted with two distributors to deliver dust control products at a reduced rate for Benton County residents on County and public roadways this year.

Nutrien Ag Solutions (formerly Crop Production Services) will be applying Lignin, a naturally occurring polymer found in wood that acts like glue holding the cellulose fibers of pulp together. Lignosulfonates work by binding the road surface particles together. Water evaporates from the lignosulfonate as it dries, and the dust particles are trapped by the high-viscosity, naturally sticky material. In addition, over time some of the lignosulfonates become completely insoluble due to solar heating.

Robin Koenig will be applying Earthbind 100.  Earthbind™ 100 is a versatile and environmentally-friendly polymer modified dust control agent that is topically applied that binds loose soil or aggregate particles together, strengthening the soil/aggregate matrix.  It adds water resistance to the treated soil and is an efficient dust control under a variety of conditions. Free of hazardous solvents, it is not considered to be harmful to aquatic and mammal life nor considered to be carcinogenic.

Any individual interested in dust control services and residing on a County or public road should call 541-766-6821 for an application permit or download from this website.  Completed applications specifying your choice of product and pre-payment must be received at Benton County Public Works, 360 SW Avery Ave, Corvallis, OR 97333 by 5:00 pm, Friday, May 3rd.  After we get your permit application and payment, a receipt and flags will be mailed to you.   Flags must be installed by Monday, May 13th.

In some instances depending on road and weather conditions, one full shot or two separate half shot applications may be made.  Rates are by the lineal foot of application as follows: (minimum 150 LF):
Lignin: up to 12 feet wide - $0.91/lineal foot
                                          16 feet wide - $1.21/lineal foot

Earthbind 100: up to 12 feet wide - $0.97/lineal foot
                                          16 feet wide - $1.29/lineal foot

Total application rate for Lignin and Earthbind 100 shall be 0.50 gallons per square yard.  Benton County attempts to schedule applications with a minimum curing time of 24 hours prior to receiving excessive rainfall.  In the event of rainfall within 24 hours of application, the County may, at its discretion, make an additional ½ application as needed.

In normal years, the application is scheduled for late-May through the end of July; however, all work is weather permitting.

Please call 541-766-6821 with any questions.
