175+ Years Of History

Sheriff Solomon "Sol" King

The Benton County Sheriff's Office has a long, proud history of providing public safety services to citizens in this area. In fact, the history of the Benton County Sheriff's Office pre-dates Oregon statehood.

In 1841 a "High Sheriff" was chosen by the people living in the Willamette Valley. In 1844 the Oregon Provisional Government created the Office of Sheriff and in 1848 the first Sheriff of Benton County, F.W. Hofins, was elected.

A list of the Sheriffs who have served Benton County, as well as an overview of some notable events in our history, can be found in the "Supporting Documents" link.
