Sustainability

Benton County has a long, rich history of a commitment to Sustainability. Beginning in the early 2000s, Commissioners and staff explored, developed, and implemented actions to address and positively affect the fundamental tenets of Sustainability:

To ensure these principles are upheld, in 2016 the County embarked on the 2040 Thriving Communities Initiative. The 2040 Initiative was led by a group of community leaders who spent two years connecting with thousands of people to identify our communities’ Core Values. Once identified, Benton County government used those Core Values as guideposts to develop Vision Statements that will steer our initiatives, policies, and activities.

Also, Benton County recognizes our world, county, and region is in a Climate Crisis. County Commissioners’ signed several resolutions in recent years to actively address and mitigate the impacts of climate change. At the Climate Crisis website, you can review those resolutions, annual updates on the County’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal, and actions we are taking to achieve that goal.
